Iran is one of the famous regions for the production of Tragacanth gum and is actually known as its largest producer. this gum is sticky, odorless and tasteless and soluble in water, which is prepared from plant sap and dried.

Tragacanth is the dried resinous secretions obtained from several types of plants. The productive species of Tragacanth Gon are small plants one meter high in Iran.

As a mucilaginous colloid, Tragacanthis highly soluble in water. Bassorin is a chemically related substance that is much less soluble but swells in water and forms a gel. This gum is used in vegetable tanned leather as a gloss and edge gloss compound and is sometimes used as a stiffener in textiles.

Gum has been used throughout history as an herbal remedy for ailments such as coughs and diarrhea. As a mucilage or paste, it has been used as a topical treatment for burns. It is used in medicines and food as an emulsifier, thickener, stabilizer and texture additive. Castor gum is also used to make a paste used in flower sugar crafts to create realistic flowers on wires used as cake decorations, which air-dry and can take dyes. This is an odorless, tasteless, water-soluble mixture obtained from plant sap. The gum of the plant is obtained naturally from the root as well as from incisions made in the stem and then dried to form crystals from the husks.

It is used to manage diarrhea and as a sedative in cough and cold preparations. It is currently used in foods and dressings, in denture stabilizers, and to thicken ice cream.

This substance is also found in toothpastes, hand lotions, denture adhesives, and vaginal creams and gels. In foods, it is used to stabilize and concentrate ingredients in salad dressings, foods and drinks. In pharmaceutical products, Tragacanth is used as a binding agent.
